Deutschland ist ein Einwanderungsland, in dem Eingewanderte und ihre Nachkommen Teil einer postmigrantischen gesellschaftlichen Lebenswirklichkeit sind. Um diese Realität auch mit Umfragedaten abbilden zu können, wurde das DeZIM.panel aufgebaut. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Zufallsstichprobe auf Basis der Einwohnermeldeämter, mit der aktuelle Stimmungen und Trends in der deutschen Bevölkerung im Längsschnitt abgebildet werden können. Im DeZIM.panel sind Personen mit Migrationsgeschichte überrepräsentiert, insbesondere Menschen aus der Türkei, aus anderen mehrheitlich muslimischen Ländern, aus Staaten, mit denen Westdeutschland zwischen 1955 und 1973 Anwerbeabkommen geschlossen hatte (sogenannte „Gastarbeiter*innen”), aus der ehemaligen UdSSR und Rumänien (sogenannte „Spätaussiedler*innen“) sowie jeweils die Nachkommen dieser Menschen. Dadurch liefert das DeZIM.panel genügend Fälle für Vergleiche und Analysen innerhalb dieser Subgruppen sowohl im Quer- als auch im Längsschnitt. Die erste selbstadministrierte Befragungswelle ging Ende November 2021 ins Feld. Mittlerweile wurden bereits zwölf reguläre Wellen durchgeführt. Im Jahr 2023 wurde die zweite Rekrutierungswelle (dw0) als Erweiterung zur ersten Rekrutierungswelle (aw0) konzipiert, um die gesamte erwachsene Bevölkerung in Deutschland zu erfassen. Folglich wurden ältere Menschen, die vor 1954 geboren wurden, befragt. Panelbereite Personen aus der zweiten Rekrutierungswelle wurden ab Welle 10 in das DeZIM.panel integriert. Als multithematisches Online Access Panel zielt das DeZIM.panel darauf ab, die Auswirkungen externer Ereignisse sowie kurz- und langfristige Veränderungen in der öffentlichen Meinung zu verfolgen, mit besonderem Fokus auf Eingewanderte und deren Nachkommen. Auf diese Weise können Entwicklungen erfasst und Daten dazu bereitgestellt werden, die für diejenigen, die in den Themenfeldern Integration, Migration und Rassismus forschen, von besonderem Interesse sind. Integrationsindikatoren, Diskriminierungserfahrungen, fremdenfeindliche und rassistische Haltungen und nationale und ethnische Identitäten werden im Rahmen der jeweiligen Erhebungen erfasst. Jedes Jahr werden insgesamt vier Erhebungswellen à 20 Minuten durchgeführt. Die Hälfte der Befragung besteht aus verschiedenen Kernmodulen, die jedes Jahr weitgehend gleichbleiben sowie Fragen zu aktuellen Themen. Die Kernmodule konzentrieren sich auf politische Institutionen und Einstellungen sowie politisches Verhalten (Modul 1), auf gesellschaftliche Werte und Einstellungen (Modul 2), auf Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden (Modul 3) und auf Arbeit und Bildung sowie Diskriminierungserfahrungen (Modul 4). Fragen zum subjektiven Wohlbefinden und zur Einschätzung der individuellen Lebenssituation werden in jeder Welle gestellt. Neben diesen regulären Befragungswellen gibt es auch das Befragungsformat der sogenannten Schnellbefragungen mit einer Feldzeit von ein bis zwei Wochen. Damit können wir zeitnah auf wichtige aktuelle gesellschaftliche und politische Themen reagieren.
Die Daten des DeZIM.panel des Release 5.0.0 werden in Längsschnittstruktur bereitgestellt. Das Release 5.0.0 enthält die Daten der folgenden Wellen:
- erste Rekrutierungswelle (aw0, 2021) und zweite Rekrutierungswelle (dw0, 2023)
- die ersten zwölf regulären Befragungswellen (bw1-bw4 (2022), cw1-cw4 (2023), dw1-dw4 (2024))
- zwei Schnellbefragungen: eine zum Krieg in der Ukraine (bs1, 2022) und die andere zu den Landtagswahlen in Thüringen und Sachsen (ds1, 2024).
The DeZIM.panel has been set up as a data collection infrastructure that explicitly takes Germany’s current post-migrant society into account. It is a random sample drawn based on the registration offices, which allows for the longitudinal representation of current moods and trends in the German population. In the DeZIM.panel, individuals with migration background are oversampled, especially people from Turkey and from other majority Muslim countries, from states with guest worker agreements and re-settlers from the East. Thus, the DeZIM.panel provides sufficient cases for comparisons and analyses within these subgroups, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. The first self-administered survey was launched at the end of 2021. In the meantime, twelve regular waves have already been conducted. In the year 2023, the second recruitment wave (dw0) was designed as complementary extension sample to the first recruitment wave (aw0), to cover the whole adult population in Germany. As a result, elderly people born earlier than 1954 were targeted. Panel-ready individuals from the second recruitment wave were integrated into the DeZIM.panel starting from wave ten. The general aim of the DeZIM.panel is to function as a multi-thematic, multi-wave access panel that allows researchers to track the impact of external events, as well as to track short- and long-term changes in public opinion of different societal groups with a specific regard to minorities, immigrants and their descendants. This allows for the capture of both new developments and current trends. It also provides data, which is of specific interest to those studying the topics of integration, migration, and racism. Such data include integration indicators, discrimination experiences, xenophobic and racist attitudes, and national and ethnic identities. The DeZIM.panel runs four regular waves per year with a length of 20 minutes. Half of the survey consists of core modules, which remain largely the same every year, along with questions on current topics. The core modules focus on political institutions, attitudes, and behaviour (Module 1), societal values and societal norms (Module 2), health and well-being (Module 3), and labour and education as well as discrimination experiences (Module 4). Questions about subjective well-being and the assessment of individual life situations are asked in every wave. In addition to these regular waves, we also have the survey format of the so-called short surveys with a field time of one to two weeks. This allows us to respond in a timely manner to important current societal and political issues.
